Friday December 1, 2018 is Rosa Parks Day. Rosa Parks was a civil rights activists who helped changed history and was one of the most important leaders of the 20th century. She was born in February 4, 1913. She died in October 24, 2005. “Mrs. Parks was a seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama when, in December of 1955, she refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white passenger.” After this she was taken to jail.  She inspired many people such as Martin Luther King Jr. “On September 9, 1996, President Bill Clinton presented Rosa Parks the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award.”

“Rosa Parks Day was created by the California State Legislature and first celebrated February 4, 2000. California chose to recognize the date of Rosa Park’s birth.  Ohio and Oregon celebrate Rosa Parks Day on the day she was arrested, December 1.
